Race for Smiles Raises Money for Children's Healthcare

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Johns Creek Pediatric Dental Town is hosting a 5K/1K "Race for Smiles" to benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Children's Cancer Fund of America.

The race will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 8:00 a.m. at Dental Town (4330 Johns Creek Parkway, Suite 100, Suwanee, 30024). Runners of all ages are encouraged to participate; walkers and strollers will be welcomed.

The cost for adults to run the 5K is $20, but this fee is reduced to $15 for established Dental Town families. Children ages 12 and under who participate in the 1K are $10. Register at the race's Active site no later than Friday, Nov.

School Board Announces November Community Meetings

FULTON COUNTY, GA -- Each member of the Fulton County Board of Education sponsors a monthly meeting open to all members of the community.

The sessions provide an opportunity for direct contact with community members and give board members a chance to listen to local issues and concerns.

Runoff for Johns Creek City Council Seat

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The top two vote-getters in the Nov. 2 special election for Johns Creek City Council Post 5 are headed for a runoff on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Candidates Kelly Stewart and Tim Jennette will appear on the runoff ballot.

About 15,200 Johns Creek residents cast ballots on Nov. 2.

Register for the Founders Day Parade

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The 4th annual Johns Creek Founders Day Parade is less than a month away, and the registration time for participating in the parade is nearing.

Anyone interested in being in this year's parade is asked to fill out the official form and either fax or mail it to the City of Johns Creek. The registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 12.

The 2010 Founders Day Parade will feature a visit from the world-famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. The "Heavy Hitters" drumline and Homer the Brave, mascot of the Braves, are also scheduled to appear. 11Alive morning anchor and Johns Creek resident Karyn Greer will be the emcee.

The parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10:00 a.m.

Fulton County Honors Johns Creek Teachers of the Year

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Fulton County School System's top employees will be honored on Friday, Nov. 5 at the district's annual recognition luncheon.

More than 900 employees, business partners and special guests will gather to pay tribute to each school's and administrative building's employees of the year.

Stephanie Clower, a Spanish teacher at Chattahoochee High School, is the 2010-2011 Fulton County Overall Teacher of the Year.

Hazardous Waste Disposal Day in Johns Creek

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- It's time to get rid of those old cans of paint and insecticide that have been sitting in the garage for years.

The City of Johns Creek, Keep North Fulton Beautiful and The Home Depot are sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Johns Creek Home Depot (5950 State Bridge Road, Johns Creek, 30097).

"A lot of people don't want to just throw toxic liquids and material in the landfill, so they hang onto it," said James Swope, manager of Johns Creek Solid Waste.
