JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Is there any better way to spend a summer evening than a picnic in the park with games and live music -- for free?

The second annual Music in the Park event will be Saturday, June 18 at Newtown Park (3150 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek).

It will feature the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra, Metro Atlanta's only all-professional symphony orchestra apart from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, playing a diverse program of Broadway and Americana music from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The Beethoven Chamber Orchestra, a local training orchestra for children ages seven to 17, will kick off the event at 5:45 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and enter one of three contests -- "Best Americana Themed Picnic," "Most Musical Themed Picnic" and "Best Georgia Themed Picnic" -- for a chance to win prizes. Alcohol is not permitted in Newtown Park.

Publix will provide free hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas for anyone who doesn't feel like cooking.

Pre-festival activities, including plenty of fun events for children, begin at 4 p.m.
