WEEKEND EVENTS: Hawks Basketball and Urban Gardening

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Wind down at Fernbank’s Martinis and IMAX event on Friday, April 22. This weekly event usually draws a healthy sized crowd. Most cocktails are about $8 each and tickets to each actual IMAX movie are about $12. Come join Atlanta’s cosmopolitan crowd at this event.

Swim with the Georgia Aquarium’s resident whale shark on Friday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m. Guests will be able to swim at the surface, with an air supply. The aquarium will provide a mask, air, booties and a wetsuit. All of this comes with a $224.95 price tag, talk about a nice Earth Day gift.

Arguably the best center in the NBA, the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard journeys home to Atlanta for game three of the NBA Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

DULUTH, Ga. -- The Hudgens Center for the Arts (6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth, 30097) will be open to the public for a free Family Day on Saturday, Apr. 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to enjoying the current "We Are Folk: Exploring Traditions in Southern Folk Art" exhibit, visitors can also participate in make-and-take art projects inspired by timeless Southern art techniques.

The volunteer-led activities will be available between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Saturday, March 26 from 11-3:30 is the 9th Annual Alpharetta Children’s Festival. It’s held at the Alpharetta Community Center Event Lawn, which is on the backside of the dog park and behind the gymnasium. This is a very family friendly event that has arts, crafts, food, educational activities from the fire and police departments and much more. 

The event is free and open to the public. Some of the premium events like the train or pony ride may charge a nominal amount of money. This event will be cancelled in the event of rain, so check the forecast for Alpharetta. If it does rain there is no make-up date, so cross your fingers for good weather!

The 5th Annual Fine  Art + Fashion presentation hosted by Neiman Marcus was a beautifully major success!  The NBAF were delighted and honored to have Sandra Anderson Baccus chair Fine Art + Fashion this year, as well as honorary chairs Su and Al Longman, co-chairs Marjorie and Steve Harvey, Earnest Ingram and Charlene Crusoe Ingram, John and Vicki Palmer, and Bill Torres and Jack Sawyer. The fashion presentation was absolutely amazing and CD Greene's designs were simply stunning.
