Bring One for the Chipper -- and bring your electronics too

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Johns Creek is expanding its Christmas tree recycling program to include other items.

In addition to trees, Bring One for the Chipper will accept electronics, cardboard, clothing, cooking oil and fluorescent light bulbs.

This year's event will be Saturday, Jan. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Johns Creek Home Depot, 5950 State Bridge Road.

The Davey Tree Expert Company will chip the Christmas trees into mulch, which will then be used for playgrounds, wildlife habitats and other public beautification projects.

Johns Creek residents are also encouraged to bring their old computers, monitors, printers, laptops, keyboards, mice, cords, stereos, copy machines, cell phones, telephones, batteries, cardboard, clothing, shoes, fluorescent tubes and used cooking oil.

The clothing and shoes will be donated to charity, while all other items will be recycled.

A $10 fee will apply to donated televisions. The fee is $25 for projection TVs and screens that are at least 35 inches.

Event organizers will not be able to accept hazardous waste or items containing mercury and freon.
