FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Each member of the Fulton County Board of Education sponsors a monthly meeting open to all members of the community.

The sessions provide an opportunity for direct contact with community members and give board members a chance to listen to local issues and concerns.

Board members have set the following meeting dates for April:

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Fulton County Schools students, staff and parents, as well as local residents, are invited to attend a forum and meet superintendent finalist Robert Avossa.

The North Fulton meet and greet will be on Wednesday, Apr. 20 at Centennial High School (9310 Scott Road, Roswell, 30076). It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by a community meeting at 7 p.m.

This meeting is part of a 14-day public comment period held before the school board can formally tender the position to Avossa.

The superintendent finalist will use this opportunity to share his educational philosophies and personal background, as well as engage in question and answer sessions.

Bulky recycling, paper shredding services this weekend

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- To aid in the perennial ritual of spring cleaning, Johns Creek Solid Waste Division and Keep Johns Creek Beautiful are holding a Bulky Recycling Day on Saturday, Apr. 16.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Johns Creek residents can bring bulky items to the Medlock Bridge Shopping Center (6000 Medlock Bridge Parkway, 30022).

There will also be a document shredder available to help dispose of old or sensitive records. The shredding is free, but participants are asked to bring no more than 10 boxes of paper.

This is not considered a trash day.

Motorcycle ride to benefit injured Fulton officer

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- A police-escorted motorcycle ride benefiting injured police officers will take place this weekend.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 9 at North Point Community Church (4350 North Point Parkway, Alpharetta, 30022). Participants may register from 9 to 11 a.m., when the riders take off.

The ride will last approximately two hours. It will end at the Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub (12650 Crabapple Road, Milton, 30004).

The cost for the ride is $25 per bike and $10 per passenger. Registration includes a T-shirt and a ticket for raffle door prizes, including a 2006 Triumph Scrambler and a new Glock pistol.

Officers will ride this weekend in honor of Fulton County Officer Paul Phillips, who stopped to help a motorist in Sugar Hill on Feb.

North Fulton Chamber launches new expanded networking event

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce is kicking off a new quarterly event called the Bonus Round.

The Bonus Round is designed to bring an extra chance for networking to North Fulton professionals.

"This complimentary evening is all about opportunity," said Brandon Beach, president of the GNFCC. "We have extended our invitation to include the business community at large and understand that people are energized, want meaningful connections and are looking for a place to find success. The Bonus Round will provide that opportunity."

The first Bonus Round will be on Tuesday, Apr. 19 at the brand new Gallery Events in the Johns Creek Center for the Arts and Design (10700 State Bridge Road, 30022).

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the evening ending at 7:30 p.m.

DALLAS, Ga. -- Three students from Metro Atlanta high schools are the new officers of the Georgia Senior Beta Club.

The officers were elected during the Georgia chapter's annual conference at the beginning of March:

* President: Caleb Swiney (North Paulding High, Dallas)
* Vice President: Jared Moto (Chattahoochee High, Johns Creek)
* Secretary: Kristyn Stanback (Northview High, Johns Creek)

"I don't remember what I felt when they called my name," said Swiney, who is active in North Paulding High's Beta Club. "I just remember the club swarmed me.

Donations needed for Fulton Prom Closet

Donations needed for Fulton Prom Closet

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The Housing Authority of Fulton County (HAFC) and the Resident Advisory Board (RAB) are sponsoring the county's second annual Prom Closet program.

The HAFC is seeking donations that will allow disadvantaged young women to dress up for formal events.

Items needed for the Prom Closet include:

* Formal dresses (clean, gently used, all sizes)
* Shoes
* Accessories (bracelets, necklaces, earrings, etc.)
* Handbags

Donations can be dropped off at the HAFC (4273 Wendell Drive, Atlanta, 30336) from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last day to give is Friday, Apr. 1.

The Prom Dress Giveaway is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 9 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the HAFC.

Applications are now being accepted for the giveaway.
