Johns Creek Presents 'Super CPR Saturday'

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- In conjunction with American Heart Month, Johns Creek's "Super CPR Saturday" returns on Feb. 26.

This day of free lifesaving classes, which is part of the city's Heart Ready program, teaches local residents and business owners how to perform CPR and use an AED.

The classes will be taught by Johns Creek firefighters and paramedics at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Newtown Community Clubhouse (Newtown Park, 3115 Old Alabama Road, 30022).

The non-certification classes are recommended for people ages 10 and older.

Johns Creek School Orchestras Hit High Notes

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Two school orchestras from Johns Creek were recently in the spotlight for their outstanding musical performances.

The Advanced Orchestra from Taylor Road Middle School performed at the Georgia Music Educators Assocation conference in Savannah on Thursday, Jan. 27. The group was one of only two Georgia middle school programs invited to participate.

The orchestra, which is under the direction of teacher Nicole Thompson, performed six selections, including a tribute to Dr. Michael Allen, an internationally-recognized music educator who recently lost a battle with cancer. Dr. Allen was co-author of "Essential Elements for Strings."

Charity Presents Mobility Bike to Disabled Child at Bowling Event

MARIETTA, GA -- Variety of Georgia will present a special mobility bike to a physically challenged child during a bowling event on Saturday, Feb. 12.

The Johns Creek-based charity's mission is to enhance and improve the lives of children who suffer from disabilities, poverty, abuse and neglect, according to its Web site.

Saturday's bowling outing will be at Brunswick Zone bowling alley (2750 Austell Road, Marietta, 30008). Forty lanes with five bowlers each have already been sold, which equals approximately 200 participants bowling for charity.

Registration begins at 1:00 p.m., with the mobility bike presentation occuring at 1:30 p.m. in the bowling alley's lobby. The tournament, which includes a raffle and silent auction, will end around 5:00 p.m.

Variety of Georgia's mobility program will benefit from 100% of the proceeds raised.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Love is in the air, and 500 local couples will prove it by participating in Valentine Vows, an event sponsored by local Christian radio station 104.7 The Fish.

The couples will renew their vows in a special ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church (9820 Nesbit Ferry Road, Johns Creek, 30022).

Johns Creek Police Take a 'Plunge' for a Good Cause

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Officers from the Johns Creek Police Department will join other law enforcement agencies for the second annual Polar Plunge fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Lake Lanier Islands Beach and Water Park in Buford.

The brave men and women of the JCPD will face the lake's icy waters in exchange for pledges they've collected from family, friends and the community.

Redistricting Meetings Set for Bethany Bend High School

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Three community meetings are set to address the redistricting process for a new high school in northern Fulton County:

* Wednesday, Feb. 23
* Wednesday, Mar. 16
* Wednesday, Apr. 13

All three meetings will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Alpharetta High School (3595 Webb Bridge Road, 30005). Parents, staff and community members are invited to attend and give their input.

The high school will be constructed at the corner of Bethany Bend and Cogburn Road in Milton.
