It’s a Good Week for Books on the North Side

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Regardless of how much or what you like to read there, are three things happening this week around Alpharetta to help you embrace your inner book worm. Two of them involve the public library system, and one is a major book store closing a location in Johns Creek.

On Saturday March 5th from 9-4, the Alpharetta Public Library is having its monthly book sale. The books will range from .25 to $2.00 for most releases, with some rare books and current best sellers being sold for slightly more. It's cash only, so be sure to bring dollars and change because they won’t take credit cards. On most months, the local Girl Scout troop is out front selling cookies or drinks as well. The Alpharetta Library is located at 238 Canton Street in Alpharetta, and the book sale happens the first Saturday of every month.

Twice a year, The Cobb County Public Library System has a huge book sale. Their spring sale happens March 4-5 9:00-5:00 and on March 6th from 1:00-5:00 at Jim R. Miller Park, Exhibit halls A & B, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta. Similar to the monthly sales, this is cash only, but bring more cash than you think you might need.

As this book sale is twice a year, they have a huge amount of books, enough to fill two massive warehouses. It is staggering how many books they have, so if you’re going, expect a crowd and bring something on wheels to carry your books. They say that they’ll have at least 175,000 book, most of which they’ll sell for $1.00, but the prices will ebb and flow depending on condition and classification. This is about 40 minutes away from Alpharetta, but it’s worth the drive if you want to get some books for cheap.

As you may know, Borders is closing a couple of their retail locations. One of those locations is just around the corner in Johns Creek. The Borders at 3636 Peachtree Parkway is closing sometime before the end of April. Currently, their prices are marked down between 20-40% on everything in the store.

It’s a good selection of new books, but there are books everywhere! All of the product is new, but the staff is simply occupied ringing up customers and can’t restock things in a normal manner. The discounts may get deeper, but that won’t be till right before the close the doors, so if that’s what you’re waiting for, then I’d call them once a week to see when that’s happening.
