Poll location change for Jan. 6 Special Election

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections will be required to change one (1) polling location for the 2014 Special Election to fill the vacancy for State House District 50 in North Fulton County. All affected voters will be notified of the change in location by first-class mail. Concerned residents are urged to check on-line to find out if the change would affect their poll on Election Day.

“Unfortunately, we will not be able to use one school as polling locations for the upcoming run-off election,” said Richard Barron, Director of the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections. “The school will be undergoing renovations making it unusable for polling.”

Police seek 12-year-old Johns Creek girl


JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Authorities are searching for a 12-year-old girl who may have been abducted by a parent in Johns Creek.

According to Chris Byers of the Johns Creek Police Department, Taleiyah Brown was last seen getting into a red four-door vehicle after she got off the school bus at the Chelsea Ridge apartments.

The child had apparently been texting an unknown person while on the bus.

No other information is known. Anyone who sees the girl is asked to contact the Johns Creek Police Department.

Accident shuts down Johns Creek intersection


JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- A two-car accident has shut down a busy Johns Creek intersection Tuesday morning.

It happened at around 7 a.m. at Barnwell and Holcomb Bridge roads.

Johns Creek communications manager Doug Nurse said the two cars collided head-on. Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection is expected to be closed for at least an hour. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes.

North Fulton voters can vote absentee by mail for special election

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Some North Fulton County voters may prefer to vote absentee by mail for State House District 50.

To request an absentee ballot, registered voters may fax or mail a written request for an absentee ballot. Voters can vote absentee by mail for any reason. Citizens can request an absentee ballot through Friday, Jan. 2.

Election Day is Tuesday, Jan. 6. Requests for absentee ballots may be submitted now.

Absentee VOTE BY MAIL

Eligible voters (meaning registered voters) desiring to vote by mail may do so without providing a reason or identification if they mail in their application for a ballot. However, this does not apply to voters who registered for the first time in Georgia by mail and did not provide ID with their registration application.

Weekend roadwork: Once again, avoid I-20 on the west side

(WXIA) -- Drivers are asked to avoid non-essential travel on Interstate 20 on Atlanta's west side this weekend.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will perform several road projects on I-20 as well as other areas of metro Atlanta. Lane closures and delays are expected.

All work is weather permitting.

This weekend's work by county includes:

Cobb County
* Two northbound lanes of Cobb Parkway will be closed at the Chattahoochee River on Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon for pavement repairs.
* Two southbound lanes of Cobb Parkway will be closed at the Chattahoochee River on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. for pavement repairs.

Primrose students prep for Can-a-Thon


JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Young students from the Primrose School of Johns Creek are getting ready for 11Alive's Can-a-thon.

The 32nd annual 11Alive Can-a-Thon is this Friday. Primrose kids have been a part of the holiday tradition for 23 years, collecting thousands of non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army food bank every year.

Fulton County to conduct special election for Georgia House District 50

Fulton County to conduct special election for Georgia House District 50

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- A special election will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 to fill a vacancy in State House District 50. The election for Georgia House District 50 will occur at select City of Johns Creek precincts.

Early voting will be held Monday, Dec. 15 through Friday, Jan. 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Johns Creek Environmental Campus, 8100 Holcomb Bridge Road.

Saturday voting will be held Dec. 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Early voting locations will be closed for holidays on December 24, 25, and January 1.

On Jan. 6, polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the following precinct locations:
