Notice of Johns Creek property tax hearings

Notice of Johns Creek property tax hearings

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Johns Creek is currently in the process of establishing its 2011 millage rates.

Before the city sets the final millage rate for 2011, state law requires that public hearings be held to allow residents an opportunity to express their opinions on the rate. All concerned citizens are invited to attend and participate in one of the three hearings, which will be held at City Hall (12000 Findley Road):

* Monday, July 11 at 11:30 a.m.
* Monday, July 11 at 6 p.m.
* Monday, July 25 at 7 p.m.

Action to adopt the final millage rate for 2011 is scheduled to take place at the City Council meeting on July 25.

Since the city was not incorporated until Dec. 1, 2006, Johns Creek cannot publish a five-year history of its tax digest, property tax revenues and millage rate as is normally required. However, the city has published the information for 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

LOCAL PROFILE: Georgia's Country Music Scene

ATLANTA – According to the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, “country music is a perennial Southern favorite in Atlanta and it won’t disappoint”. The music, which has its roots in the south, is known as a blend of, both, traditional and popular music. The country music genre gained widespread popularity around the mid-1900’s as music known as “hillbilly” or old-time music began to decline. Hillbilly music was a genre of music native to the people of the Ozarks. The music was usually played on acoustic instrument like a guitar or a banjo.

Over the years, old-time music changed however most of the lyrical content and instrumentation stayed the same. As it evolved, the arrangement of instruments grew to include the electronic keyboard, drums, the bass, fiddle and the harmonica.

Don’t be the fool at the pool!

 Don’t be the fool at the pool!

It's almost pool party time. We've got new bikinis and can't wait to break them in. But before most public pools "officially" open Memorial Day weekend we decided to give a refresher in pool/beach etiquette. ‘Tragically , not everyone was born knowing how to act at the pool or beach.  Unfortunately, there are some people who really need to be told not to poo, pee, spit, or blow their nose in a pool. For those of you who know better bear with us, and for those of you who don't, read on!
