Fulton County 4-H accepting applications for summer camp

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County Cooperative Extension is accepting applications for its 2015 4-H Summer Camp. 4-H Summer Camp is something to consider for your kids to experience creative fun and memories without heating up your wallet or credit card bills.

“Our 4- H Summer Camp has an exciting program for every age,” states Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “From the Clover Leaf Camp to the Senior Camp, students will enjoy the activities, make friends and create lifetime memories.”

Summer Camps:

Cloverleaf Camp is for grades 5th-6th. It will be held June 29-July 3, 2015 at Rock Eagle in Eaton. The cost is $295*. Participants will experience Pioneer Camping.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- The second Seeds of Courage 5K will be held this weekend in Johns Creek.

The race, which includes a fun run option, will be Sunday, Aug. 24 at Newtown Park. Registration and check-in opens at 7 a.m. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m., while the fun run will start as soon as the bigger race ends.

Pre-registered runners will receive T-shirts and goodie bags. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.

The 5K costs $28 before Aug. 24 and $30 on race day, while the fun run is only $15. Families of four can register for $85.

Proceeds from Seeds of Courage will help Mustard Seed Ministries and the Girl Scouts of America take a mission trip to a Jamaican orphanage.

(WXIA) -- In honor of its role as sponsor of the 2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race, Mellow Mushroom is hosting a contest for the runners, athletes and weekend warriors in metro Atlanta.

The Atlanta-based pizza chain has debuted its Mellow Sports Sweep contest. Based on the old game show "Supermarket Sweep," the contest will give two lucky winners the opportunity to go on a 90-second shopping spree at Sports Authority.

To enter, create a 15-second Instagram video using #MellowSportsSweep explaining why you should win the contest.

The grand prize includes two race entries into the 2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race, one night at the W Atlanta - Buckhead, dinner for two at Mellow Mushroom and, of course, the Sports Authority sweep.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Emory Johns Creek Hospital will hold a 5K and health festival this weekend.

The fun will be Saturday, May 17 starting at 6:30 a.m., when packet pickup begins. The race will be off and running at 8 a.m., and will be followed by free health screenings and kids' activities.

Cash prizes will be given to the top three male and female finishers, while awards will also go to the first three runners in each age group. All bariatric patients who complete the race will receive medals.

Registration is $30 plus a $3.50 signup fee in advance, and $35 on the day of the race. Proceeds will benefit the Emory Johns Creek Hospital Foundation and the Chattahoochee High School cross country team.

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

(WXIA) -- Youth running groups, rejoice -- the Atlanta Track Club has created a scholarship program just for you.

The Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge will award scholarships to the three organizations that have the most children registered for the 2014 Peachtree Jr. or Lil' Peach Dash.

The first place team will be given a $1,500 scholarship, a $1,250 cash donation from the Atlanta Track Club and $250 in Sports Authority store credit. Two runners-up will each get $750 scholarships, $500 donations and $250 in Sports Authority credit.

"Through the Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge, we are able to give back to organizations that share our goal of inspiring children to be healthier and more active," Atlanta Track Club Executive Director Rich Kenah said in a release. "Atlanta Track Club is proud to partner with Sports Authority to offer these scholarships to provide extra motivation to keep kids moving."

ATLANTA -- It's that time of year again -- time to register for the world's largest 10K.

AJC Peachtree Road Race lottery registration is now open. It will close Saturday, Mar. 22 at 11:59 p.m.

Those who are chosen for the race will be informed by Tuesday, Mar. 25.

AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest open

ATLANTA -- Calling all artists: the AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest is now accepting entries.

Designers have until Friday, Feb. 28 to submit their works of art. All entries will be whittled down to five finalists, which will be unveiled on ajc.com/peachtree on Saturday, Mar. 15.

No one will see the winning design until race day, when it will adorn tens of thousands of finishers' T-shirts.

"The AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest is a great way to showcase the work of our local artists, and we are always impressed with the entries we receive," Atlanta Track Club interim executive director Sue Payne said in a statement.

Whoever wins the contest receives $1,000, while each of the four finalists gets $100.
