LOCAL PROFILE: NFL Linebacker Rennie Curran

LILBURN -- Former Brookwood High School football standout, Rennie Curran is patiently waiting for a new jersey. Over the past two years, Curran went from the University of Georgia to LP Field in Nashville and now he's back at home.

Curran was released shortly after this year's NFL pre-season, despite leading the team in tackles during the pre-season.

Since being cut, Curran has been training at Catalyst and other gyms to ensure that when he does get a call, he wont miss a step. Curran is pretty confident he'll be wearing someone's jersey soon.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - Luke Donald and Charles Howell III are in the running for prize money running into the millions at the Tour Championship Presented by Coca Cola this week.

But before they hit the ball at Eastlake, they were a big hit earlier in the week with a young player just beginning competitive golf.  Donald, ranked number one in the world, and Howell were both in town a bit early for an outing on behalf of their club sponsor Mizuno.

But they also took the time to share some thoughts with 12 year old Manny Wignall.  The young Atlantan just took up the game about a year ago. Mizuno and 11 Alive arranged to surprise Manny with a new set of clubs as a Random Act of Kindness.

Medlock Bridge faculty gets students pumped for Runapalooza

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- With their second annual Runapalooza Fun Run right around the corner, the administrative team at Medlock Bridge Elementary School in Alpharetta knew it was time to get the students pumped up for the big fundraiser.

On Friday, Aug. 26, principal Margaret Pupillo and her fellow administrators donned blue wigs and star-shaped glasses as they wowed the student body with their rendition of Katy Perry's "Firework" during the Runapalooza Rally.

And the students are starting to get excited for the event, which is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9. The run brings tens of thousands of dollars to the school, with many of the funds going directly to educational initiatives.

Runapalooza involves all Medlock Bridge students completing up to 25 laps on the track. They receive pledges for each lap they run from family, friends, neighbors and other members of the community.

This year, the school-wide goal is $50,000.

ATLANTA -- With the arrival of several new stores this month, Subway celebrates the opening of more than 500 stores in Metro Atlanta since its first location in 1977.

This milestone is a testament to the Subway brand and the franchisees who have made it so successful in the Atlanta area -- not to mention the world, as Subway is the planet's largest restaurant chain with over 34,000 locations.

"We continue to offer a dining experience that meets the changing tastes and needs of our loyal patrons, so it is no surprise to see this important achievement," said Christi Estis, director of operations for Subway Development of Atlanta. "We could not have reached this milestone without the dedication of our model franchisees and employees.

MIDTOWN: Dream delayed for Tech football player

MIDTOWN: Dream delayed for Tech football player

ATLANTA -- For more than a year, Georgia Tech Defensive Lineman Denzel McCoy has been waiting for the chance to take the field with the Yellow Jackets. Now it seems that chance may never happen.

A highly recruited prep standout from Northview High School, Denzel McCoy was held out of practices last year when a heart ailment was detected during a physical examination. Cardiomyopathy, is the disease that is robbing McCoy of living his dream of playing college football.

Denzel is looking ahead and aiming at earning his degree, while finding other ways to support the Georgia Tech program. Denzel knows the chances are slim, but still clings to a hope that somehow he will get to play just once. If he does, Denzel McCoy says he wants all of the doctors along with family and friends to join him in running behind the Rambling Wreck.

The Braves steamed a behind-the-scenes look at their first effort on their website. The event had multiple stations for fan interaction: they hosted a Conference Call, Skype with Fans, they moderated a Twitter conversation, streamed Peter Moylan’s talkshow which was named by his Twitter followers and hosted simultaneous online chats.

As a result of the effort, the team gained about 3,000 Twitter followers and acquired 16,500 Facebook likes.
