ATLANTA – Located in a strip mall on Douglas Road in Alpharetta, the Kozmo GastroPub is always abuzz with patrons and people looking for a good time. The restaurant boasts “urban comfort foods”, high energy, high volume, a long wine list and an affordable menu. The owner, longtime restaurateur, Oswald Morgan, who once owned popular Midtown restaurant “the Globe” wanted to create a modern, industrial-themed restaurant located “off the beaten path”.
“We wanted to keep it clean, very modern, hence the clean lines and the very basic industrial look”, explained Oswald Morgan.
The restaurant offers a huge wine list, a host of imported and domestic beers, a list of custom cocktails and most of them at a modest price point.
According to Morgan, the exact location of the restaurant wasn’t a “big deal” but he wanted to “create something incredible” in the suburbs and he looked to fill a void.
“I wanted the restaurant to be something like a gem when residents found it”, explained Morgan.
The best part about the restaurant is that it’s unassuming and, somewhat, hidden from mainstream, big box shops in Alpharetta.
Kozmo GastroPub caters to a mostly neighborhood clientele and families looking for a deal, like the one offered on $10 Fried Chicken night.
Morgan explained, “Women discovered the restaurant and started bringing their husbands in. And that’s how our clientele expanded”.
The restaurant offers a different promotion, daily. On Martini Mondays, the restaurant serves half-priced martinis starting at 4:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays, the restaurants offers a Fried Chicken meal for $12 or less.
“Our Fried Chicken is huge. We only sell about thirty orders and they’re usually gone by about 7:00 p.m. Sometimes, we get a person to call and ask for us to reserve an order”, Morgan said.
“It’s our most cult following”.
They, also, offer a wine Wednesday promotion with half-off bottled wines and a Thursday “Sexy in the City” ladies night which starts at 4:30 p.m. The restaurant sees the bulk of its volume on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. And they provide complimentary valet on weekends.
According to the owner, the restaurant is “a regular neighborhood concept and the only way we can do it is to be affordable and enjoyable. We want to be a substitute for our clientele’s kitchen. We want them to feel comfortable here”.

Morgan recommends the Kozmopolitan, which is the restaurant’s signature drink. The drink is crafted with fresh, house made Cranberry and Lime juices and garnished with fresh cranberries. The drink will cost you about $5.75
As an entrée, the owner suggests the restaurant’s signature Kozmo Cheese Burger. The burger is known as “the best burger in town” and it lives up to the hype. It’s a hand-formed and hand-ground brisket and sirloin burger that has never been frozen. The burger is served on fresh Holeman and Finch buns with caramelized onions, aged white cheddar, lettuce, tomato and hand-cut and seasoned fries. The burgers are served medium rare and can be requested without cheese. The burgers cost $9.50
And for dessert, he recommends the Lava Puffs or the Pineapple Upside Down Cake. The Lava Puffs are similar to a popular New Orleans confection, except they have soft insides; this dessert is the restaurant’s play on, both, Italian zeppola and French beignets. The Lava Puffs are served with warm chocolate and caramel syrup. The Pineapple Upside Down cake is a sour cream cake garnished with caramelized pineapples in a sugar and Rum glaze and topped with vanilla ice cream with powdered sugar. Both desserts cost $6, each.
In addition to the featured dishes, Morgan suggests the Big Bowl of White Velvet Mac&Cheese as a “must try”. The four cheese macaroni dish is crafted with a creamy Parmesan, Mozzarella, White Cheddar and Blue Cheese. The dish is not baked and it’s a traditional southern comfort food. The bowl costs about $13 but can, comfortably, feed three people.
