LOCAL PROFILE: Side Dishes with Chef Jason Hill


ATLANTA – Recently, the Where U Live Team spoke with Chef Jason Hill, owner of Inman Park eatery, Wisteria about a couple of his favorite Thanksgiving side dishes. He and Executive Chef Walker Brown explained the dishes and the inspiration behind them.

Hill suggested the Collard Greens and Corn Pudding for people who want to bring a flavorful and exciting dish to their, respective, Thanksgiving dinner. In the video above, Hill walks viewers through preparation of these dishes and the recipes are listed, below.


Corn Pudding:


3/4 cup rice flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

4 cups corn, cut from the cob or frozen, thawed

1/4 cup buttermilk

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, additional for the baking dish

2 large eggs, separated

2 ounces Asiago cheese (1 cup shredded)

Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

ATLANTA -- A popular local hamburger chain plans to donate a portion of its proceeds on Wednesday, Dec. 7 to DreamWeavers of Georgia.

Smashburger, which has four Metro Atlanta locations, will give a certain amount of money to DreamWeavers for every item purchased between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Dec. 7.

DreamWeavers of Georgia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for the benefit of foster children.

Qdoba celebrates 10 years, new look

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- The Qdoba Mexican Grill in Johns Creek is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a grand re-opening, a fresh new look and BOGO meals for all guests.

The restaurant first opened its doors in 2001 and recently underwent a complete renovation with décor that draws upon the chain's Mexican roots.

Local officials will be at the restaurant at 10 a.m. Monday to cut a ribbon and officially commemorate the updates to the inside.

Anyone who stops by throughout the day will be treated to a buy one, get one free deal on any entrée.

ATLANTA -- Applebee's expects to serve more than one million free meals to veterans and active duty military this Veterans Day.

This is the third year in a row that the Kansas City, Mo.-based chain restaurant has held its Thank You Movement to show appreciation for the brave men and women who serve our country.

And part of that movement includes allowing members of the military to eat for free on Friday, Nov. 11.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one local restaurant is doing its part to help end this devastating disease.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, Atlanta-area Smashburger restaurants will give a portion of their proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Atlanta Smashburger franchise owner Phil Wilkins feels very close to this important cause, as his mother was a breast cancer survivor.

Anyone who eats at Smashburger between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. next Wednesday will know that they are helping to eliminate the fight against breast cancer.
